I am DeAnn Jones, an active member of Stanwood. I am a preschool teacher in my home at Discovery Place Preschool. I also volunteer in the Kindergarten classroom at Cedarhome and Twin City Elementary schools. I teach early childhood education classes for Purdue University Global, Purdue's online degree program. I also tutor Kindergarten children one-on-one and in small groups. I have also taken several courses in reading instruction using the science of reading approach. I am passionate about research-based phonics approaches that help kids become strong readers!
The workshop I presented this at was geared to infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. However, the introduction is geared to school aged kids. For the purpose of this summer program, you only need to watch the first 22 minutes to get the gist of my philosophy about the science of reading and why I am making it a phonics-based reading program. Also keep in mind that this was a practice video, and it was not in front of a live audience, so it's not my best. The actual presentation went better than the video did.
The main point is that I want to embed the kids in phonics instruction so the left side of their brains can become more active over the summer like it needs to be.
More information will appear closer to summer.
Can I see the program first before I join?
Absolutely! I'd love to give you a tour of our place and show you the learning environment, activities, and play area. You can call 360-899-1019 or email Info@StanwoodPreschool.com to set up a time for you and your child to visit. You can even enroll at that time if you like what you see.
What if I have vacation plans. Can I only pay for the days we're in town?
Unfortunately, no. Once you pay for a spot, that is your spot. You are free to come on the days you are in town, but the tuition remains the same.
Can I enroll later?
Yes, as long as there is still an open spot.
